spaced out

My friend had a space themed party last night and this is what I wore. I was too lazy to get out my proper camera so I apologise for the shitty photobooth photos.

dress: motel rocks (via modcloth), boots: jeffrey campbell litas, leather jacket: angry young and poor, lipstick: mac - rebel.

And I almost forgot my fairly dodgy attempt at space/galaxy nails:

silliest outfit of the day

What am I even doing?! Why am I taking photos of a totally boring outfit while standing around in my kitchen?! I'm wearing flip flops, my shirt cost $5, why am I showing you guys this?!

So I'll tell you a secret - I actually just wanted an excuse to post this video:

fat body (in)visible from Margitte Kristjansson on Vimeo.

Made by Margitte and starring Keena and my girl Jessica it is so well made and really moving (when Keena was talking about being at the airport I cried) and definitely worth watching.

While on the subject of Size Acceptance etc I recently read this post from the amazing Leah over at thefullnilson.com where she talks about “Contextual Fatness”. This really struck a chord with me because I am also at a size where I am not limited to only shopping at plus-sized stores. I own/wear/fit into clothes ranging between a large size 12 and a small size 20, I often can go into a straight sized store and buy clothing from a much wider selection and I realise that this is a privilege that a lot of larger women don't have. I know I am not the fattest girl in the world. But, like Leah says, in the social circles I am in, at school, at jobs, I have generally been the fattest woman in the room and it is definitely something I notice, especially in social situations, and it is definitely an "othering" experience every time I notice it. Expressions like "in-betweenie" just feel patronising to me because it makes me feel like my experiences as a fat woman are somehow less important than those of women who are bigger than me. I wish that there wasn't so much talking about "how fat is fat" and how Crystal Renn is a traitor for losing weight etc etc. For something that is supposed to be a really positive thing it seems to breed a lot of negativity and that really sucks.

On a less serious note - remember my beautiful Jeffrey Campbell Foxy Leopard Platforms? These ones:

Well after wearing them twice and getting blisters on the balls of my feet from them moving around too much, I've had to admit that size 8 is too big for me and so I am selling them here! I know a lot of you guys liked them so here's your chance to have them. I'm only doing shipping within Australia because I can't be bothered with international shipping (unless somebody wants to make me a ridiculous offer I can't refuse) so Aussies, go bid!

fate.

I've never been the sort of person who believes in fate or the one or "everything happens for a reason" but recently something has started to change my mind. You might remember these shoes from my August Wishlist. They were on Nasty Gal for $145 but with shipping and the currency exchange I was looking at paying about $250 and I just couldn't justify the cost.

A few weeks later I signed up to ebay after a self-imposed six year ban due to a little bit of an ebay addiction. The first shoes I saw were leopard platforms, not as pretty as the Jeffrey Campbell ones but they were cute and in my size and going for about $50. I bid, I won and I asked the seller if it was okay for me to pay them a few days later. When the day I was going to pay came around suddenly the seller was no longer a registered ebay user and then some things started to add up - the fact that they had asked me to deposit the money into their bank account instead of paypal, the fact that they were selling some other things using only stock photos - basically it become pretty clear that they were a scammer so I was lucky I hadn't paid but I was really sad I wasn't going to get my dream shoes.

About a week after that I was sadly browsing ebay when I saw my dream shoes! Jeffrey Campbell leopard platforms in my size and at a reasonable price. I got some advice from ebay experts (don't bid until the last 30 seconds), I set alarms on my phone to remind me and everything came together perfectly and I won. A few days later they were delivered to my door and we have been living happily ever since.

I still don't believe in fate or "the one" when it comes to dudes, but with shoes... well I'm starting to think it's a different story.

October Wishlist

I want Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots (who doesn't) probably in purple with that distressed wooden heel, so amazing! They are sold out of purple in my size on Solestruck but hopefully they will be back in stock soon so I can buy them and clomp around in them all Spring. I want to wear them with dress and tights or with denim shorts. They are also available in silver glitter:

which is kind of tempting but probably just a bit too impracticable.

I have been wanting a pair of dark denim shorts with cuffs at the bottom for at least three months now. In theory they shouldn't be hard to find, I see girls wearing them all the time...but apparently once you're looking at anything over a size 16, no shorts are shorter than knee length. And knee length on other people is 3/4 length on me because I'm short. I suppose I could buy a pair of dark jeans and cut them myself but I want more tailored looking ones that aren't fraying at the bottoms and really I shouldn't have to! What is this assumption that women over a size 16 want to only wear knee length shorts?! Excuse me, summer in Melbourne gets really freaking hot and also I happen to quite like my thighs so why can't I buy short shorts?! Apparently Asos go up to a size 18 in their denim shorts so I'll have to check that out and maybe they'll fit but this has been really annoying me.

I am also lusting after this TopShop coat:

It's faux fur leopard, it's got a hood, it's even got pom poms! Talk about a dream. I know, I know it's getting warmer here so now probably isn't the time for buying fur coats but I love it.

I've been watching too many episodes of Heartbreak High lately because I'm on a fairly intense search to find some spaghetti strap floral dresses to wear over white t-shirts and with boots. In case it wasn't entirely obvious, 90s revival is the best thing that has happened in my (fashion) life so far. I also want some new bathers, possibly a two piece after being inspired by Frances' amazing bikini post on Corpulent (whatta babe).

And last but not least:

MAC lipstick in Fluid. Yes please.
